May 3-5, 2017 Film Gathering – Fairview Estate, Amherst, Virginia

Come join us in May for the 6th Film Gathering! Set against the expanse of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, we will be tucked away in the countryside at Fairview Estate: a home on the National Historic Register. Built in 1867, it is a beautiful piece of Italianate architecture with sweeping panoramic mountain views, unique interiors, and peacocks. Yes, peacocks.

We have an amazing vision already formulating for this retreat and the stories behind the styled shoots. We listened to feedback from some of our non-wedding photographers in the community, and are creating a story over two days that bridges the complete spectrum of lifestyle, boudoir, family, and wedding – so there will be something for everyone. In addition, we are adding increased value to this event with some new education segments and lessons. Of course there will be time allotted for socializing and relaxing, the cornerstone of this event.

The Film Gathering doesn’t end after each event, either. Each event has it’s own online group where you can continue to interact with your newfound cheerleaders and friends well after the retreat is over, ask questions, share your photos from the event, and continue to learn and be encouraged. You’ll have a new support network behind you as you continue on your film journey. We also create Instagram pods for each retreat, and whoever participates can receive lots of insta-image love from their Gathering community.

Brent Deitrich – Creator of The Film Gathering, and owner of Live View Studios, Brent has a heart for building community and helping other photographers to learn in a non-competitive environment. Brent is also the publisher of The White Wren, a new wedding publication launching in Spring 2017. He loves woodworking, trips to the mountains, and eclectic food dives. He shoots both medium format and 35mm film, but believes that 35mm is highly underrated in our current market. His work has been published all over the world in fine art film publications. @liveviewstudios @thewhitewren @brent.d_lvs

Michelle Wright – Michelle has been styling The Film Gathering photo shoots with us almost since the very beginning. Her passion is in authentic storytelling, and she believes that we all have history which makes us who we are and tells our story. Music, environment, interiors, and textures are all sources from which she draws inspiration. Some of her favorite designers are Lacy Geary, Ginny Au, and she loves looking through Cottage Hill and Once Wed for inspiration. Palmetto Bluff is one of her favorite places to visit. @mwrightevents

Morgane Erisman – Hailing from the mountains of Switzerland, Morgane came into The Film Gathering team last year as the new associate photographer for Live View Studios. She fell in love with shooting film, and is inspired by traveling to different unique destinations. She is the editor for The White Wren, and this spring is planning a cross country trip across Canada. @morgane.e_lvs @thewhitewren @liveviewstudios

Michelle Clark – Lover of sequins, glitter, and brightly colored hair, Michelle has a real talent for applying beautiful, natural makeup. Her fun and effervescent personality makes everyone that is around her feel relaxed. We have known and worked with Michelle for many years, and it’s always a pleasure when she is able to join us. Her favorite music to sing loudly is Fleetwood Mac and Roxette. @kmichelleclark

Keisha Proctor – Founder of Cotton Social, Keisha has designed for the last two Film Gathering events and brings beautiful and organic perspective to all things floral. She believes that flowers can tell stories, and wants to be the person to help tell those stories. @cotton_social

We try as hard as we can to keep The Film Gathering affordable for everyone. Still, it takes a lot of behind the scenes work, other vendors, and finances to pull off a successful event. Keeping the registration under $1,000 is a marvel in itself, as most workshops that have the caliber of industry professionals that we bring in exceed that by a wide margin. We are doing this as part of our love for the community, not for profit. And, we are quite pleased that our registration is all-inclusive with lodging and meals. The fellowship and conversation that is a result of everyone staying in the same house is unprecedented, and vital for community building.

Regular Registration is $575 / Early Registration is open until February 5, 2017 for $490.
